About

Talent is universal, but opportunity is not. Over 130 million girls worldwide don't have access to education.

Our goal is to raise awareness about combating gender inequality through education and to raise scholarship money for girls in developing countries to pursue higher education.

We are the University of Michigan campus chapter of the national She's The First organization, a non-profit that fights for a world where every girl chooses her own future by teaming up with local organizations to make sure girls are educated, respected, and heard.

Our Club Structure

The three pillars of our club are:

1. Education: We want our club members to learn more about gender inequality issues, so our biweekly meetings mostly consist of a GAP Presentation and discussion. Explore previous GAP topics in the "GAP" tab on our website!

2. Fundraising: The generosity of local businesses and organizations that we partner with is the major enabler for our club's mission: every year we hope to raise enough money to send 3 girls to secondary school.

3. Social: The social aspect of our club allows our members to feel connected to the STF community and feel comfortable discussing different viewpoints and challenging topics together. We host 1-2 social events every month.

Our Mission

When a girl is educated she is in a position to break the cycle of poverty in her family and in her community.
